Una-Hamirpur Rail Link approved in Budget 2017

Una-Hamirpur RailThe Una-Hamirpur rail line will be a reality soon as the same has been approved in the recent Union Budget 2017-18.” said Anurag Thakur, BJP Lok Sabha MP representing Hamirpur parliamentary constituency.
The railway line is expected to cost around Rs. 2,815 crore which would connect Una, Bilaspur and Hamirpur with a broad-gauge rail line.

Anurag thanked the Modi Government saying this step in itself is a significant milestone for Himachal Pradesh. He acknowledged the contribution of Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, FM Arun Jaitley & RM Suresh Pradhu in approval of this project. The Una-Hamirpur rail link survey was completed in June 2016 and now finally the poject has been approved given the development-oriented approach of the Government of India.
This railway line is expected to act as a silverlining towards boosting the economy in the state.

“The rail line would benefit five districts of the state, as it is the first railway line connecting Hamirpur.” Anurag said.

Anurag said that his efforts for improving the rail connectivity in the state  had finally yielded results as the Union Budget 2017-18 had approved the rail link. A total of Rs. 400 crore has been sanctioned for the railway expansion in the state with Rs. 100 crore being allocated for Una-Talwara and Rs. 250 crore for Bhanupali-Bilaspur–Beri.

Previously Rs. 310 crore in Union Budget 2016-17 & Rs. 355 crore in Union Budget 2015-16 had been allocated for the railways expansion in Himachal Pradesh.

Once the Una-Hamirpur rail link becomes reality, the road traffic between Una & Hamirpur is expected to reduce considerably.

The Government of India has previously accorded ‘in-principle’ approval for the construction of Bilaspur-Mandi-Manali-Leh railway line along the India-China border and undertaking Final Location Survey (FLS) in July 2016 given its strategic importance in the Indian defence. The cost of construction of this 498km Bilaspur-Mandi-Manali-Leh railway line is expected to cost around Rs. 22,831 crore.

The Shimla-Kalka rail line has not seen even an inch of expansion post the British regime which had got it constructed more than 100 years back in 1903.
